Pavati Tap

Pavati Tap, cool waterfall design.

We never get a chance to see how the hot and cold water blend together within the faucet, before it cascades out like a stream. The Pavati Tap builds upon this element, to showcase how beautifully the two streams of water can create drama whilst you wash your hands. A Y-shaped waterfall effect mixes the cold and hot water into a single mutual waterfall, for your viewing pleasure.

Design involves two different taps for each temperature and more modern models combining the two for a more balanced experience. The result is a sculptural creation that releases what appears to be a stunning albeit miniature waterfall.

Macintosh Phone Concept

Macintosh Phone Concept, if iPhone was made in 1984.

Pierre Cerveau reimagined Apple’s flagship product in his neat “Macintosh Phone Concept” that takes inspiration from one of Apple’s other killer products — the Macintosh 512k.

The Macintosh Phone Concept is exactly as it sounds! This novel device explores how Apple’s flagship product might’ve looked and worked had it been released 20 years before the first iPhone. The concept revolves around a vintage-looking dial that can be used to scroll up/down the screen or used like a rotary phone.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

Canon Unveils the 50mm f/1.8 STM, the New ‘Nifty Fifty’

Canon U.S.A., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce the new lightweight and compact Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM standard lens. Featuring a large maximum aperture of f/1.8, this single focal length lens (which has an effective focal length of 80mm when attached to an EOS camera with an APS-C sensor such as the EOS Rebel T6i) is ideal for creating portraits with beautiful, soft-blurred backgrounds. It’s also ideal for low-light photography and night scenes. Now incorporating Canon’s proprietary STM stepping motor technology, this new lens supports Canon’s EOS Movie Servo AF* (autofocus) function to provide smooth and quiet continuous AF during video recording, as well as when capturing still photos.

The optical design of this lens incorporates optimized coatings that help to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color neutrality. The f/1.8 maximum aperture is effective for low-light shooting as well as for controlling your focus plane for selective focus shooting. Seven rounded diaphragm blades further enhance the look of out of focus regions in an image, making it well-suited to portraiture and creative environmental shooting.

GoSun Grill

GoSun Grill is a solar grill that cooks at night.

GoSun Grill is made by inventor Patrick Sherwin GoSun Grill has increased capacity — the grill can make food enough for eight — the GoSun Grill also has a special thermal battery that allows users to make a meal even when the sun isn’t shining. The design is fantastic: The food is cooked in a glass vacuum-walled cylinder which remains cool to the touch even as the sun roasts (or bakes, steams or boils) the food within. The reflectors cook the food from all sides, as if it had been roasted on a spit.

Made of a special phase-change organic wax that melts thanks to the sun, the battery takes two hours to charge and retains heat for over four hours, so you can cook at night. When you load in the food, the wax transfers its stored heat whatever you’re cooking through two layers of metal. As the battery returns to its solid state, the rising heat cooks your meal.

French Flying Cars

Flying cars by Sylvain Viau.

For his ongoing series Flying Cars, French designer Sylvain Viau digitally edits photographs of cars into sleek, wheel-less hover cars that appear to float just above the ground. Viau not only uses his own photography to create these sci-fi cars, but is fortunate to claim many of the actual cars among his own collection.

He originally worked only with 80s Citroën vehicles because of their classic space age design, but has continued to branch out over the last few months to include cars from Peugeot, Toyota, Renault, Alpha Romeo.

The Shoe That Grows

The clever shoes that grow five sizes and last five years to help children in poverty.

For children in developing nations who are lucky enough to get shoes, they do not last long no matter what their construction, because children outgrow them. Thus Kenton Lee, who formerly did missionary work in Nairobi and witnessed this firsthand, has invented a shoe that can be adjusted to fit growing feet.

Feno Foldable Notebook

Feno Foldable Notebook by Niels van Hoof

The Feno is a folding notebook. The Feno concept designed by Niels Van Hoof goes back to tackling the good old notebook. His foldable notebook design features a unique folding method that makes the portable size just slightly wider than the diameter of a DVD.

The Feno design concept is very Apple-esque in its clean and sleek aluminum look, although its renderings are showing a Windows desktop. But what makes it unique is that the concept involves folding into thirds, with the screen being folded in half right through the centre.

ARK Solar Boat

ARK Solar Boat by Janne Leppänen

The ARK Solar Boat is a creation of Janne Leppänen, an industrial and graphic designer based in Finland. The boat was developed as part of Leppänen's graduation work from the Kuopio Academy of Design.

The idea behind the ARK (ARKKI in Finnish) Solar Boat was to devise a new form of watercraft which was environmentally responsible, luxurious and capable of acting as a spacious home. The boat was designed for around 10 years into the future, at a time when many of the cutting edge solar panel and electric technologies which are currently being researched are readily available and the cost isn't prohibitive. The ARK was designed to be used mainly on inland and coastal waters.

Nimbus eCar Concept

Awesome looking electric car concept Numbus.

Nimbus is a concept eCar by Eduardo Galvani. The Brazilian artist and designer has devised the Nimbus as a range extended electric road tripper with panoramic glass and on demand four wheel drive. It has a 180 horsepower electric motor linked to a lithium ion battery pack for zero emission.

A rear mounted internal-combustion micro generator  small gas generator can provide a much longer driving range with constant charging of its batteries. Use of lightweight materials like carbon fiber and aluminum would make for a strong-but-svelte body. Part of its body is covered with sun cells, allowing Nimbus to auto generate some of its energy, and its regenerative brake mechanism makes Nimbus able to recovery and save kinetic energy.

Kingfisher Portable Washing Machine

Manually operated washing machine for developing World.

Imagine a washing machine that can purify the water and then use it for washing! This is what exactly inspired the designer Robert Forrester.

You could bring it with you the next time you go camping and never worry about not having clean clothes to wear because it’s portable and is manually operated but that’s probably not what Mr.Forrester had in mind when he designed the machine. It was designed with urban Bangladesh in mind because apparently local residents will have to go to a canal or river to source their water which can sometimes prove to be dirty of filled with harmful chemicals.
